B.Sc Medical Lab Technology (MLT)
What is B.Sc (Hons.) Medical Lab Technology?
B.Sc. (Hons) Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) is a profession that combines the challenges and rewards of medicine with laboratory science. MLT graduates perform complex and varied laboratory analyses and use critical thinking skills in determining the accuracy and validity of clinical test results. MLT graduates recognize the interdependence of testing information and possess knowledge of physiological and pathological conditions that may affect results to support medical decisions. In diverse healthcare settings, clinical laboratory scientists provide test results used by practitioners, including physicians, nurses, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants, to determine the presence, extent, and causes of disease, monitor therapy, and evaluate testing protocols to ensure optimal and safe public health applications.
Scope
The healthcare industry is amid one of the most significant shortages of trained personnel in its history, and leaders predict this trend will continue. The shortage of laboratory personnel is expected to remain high because of various pandemics that are arising in the present era and not enough programs exist to meet the needs of the industry. So, a greater demand for MLT, who constitute 60% of the working of total healthcare team, will be raised to cater patient care needs.
Career Opportunities
The graduates of the program may pursue their career as Laboratory Managers, Education Coordinators, College or University Medical Technology Faculty, Laboratory Computer Specialists, Research Laboratory Technologists, Forensic Lab Scientists, Product Specialists or Technical Advisors for Laboratory Equipment or Chemicals etc. In the public sector, they are eligible for direct recruitment in gazette pay scale (BS-17) in Clinical or Managerial Cadre and BS-18 in Teaching Cadre, after their post-graduation.
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum 50% marks in Intermediate (Pre-Medical) / A-Level (Biology Mandatory) or equivalent.
