Awards
- Faisal Dar’s contributions in the development of liver transplant service in Pakistan was recognized by the Government of Pakistan and he was awarded “Sitara e Imtiaz” by the honourable president of Pakistan in 2016.
- He was awarded the “BMJ South Asia award 2017” as the best surgical team of the year for developing liver transplant service in Pakistan.
- He has been awarded the “Zenith Global Healthcare’s international healthcare professional and special recognition awards in 2018” for developing liver transplant, hepatobiliary and pancreatic surgical service in Pakistan.
Clinical Interest
Prof Dar has a special interest in adult and paediatric living donor liver transplants, surgical resection of hilar cholangiocarcinoma, Pancreatic resections with vascular resections and shunt surgery for non-cirrhotic portal hypertension. He has expertise in liver transplants for infants, children, oval graft transplants for obese patients and using small for size grafts.
Overview
Prof Dar has performed more than 1050 living donor liver transplants at Shifa International Hospital. Some of his major liver transplants surgeries are following:
- Pakistan’s first living donor pediatric liver transplant on a 9-year-old boy on April 30, 2012.
- Pakistan’s first adult to adult living donor liver transplant (LDLT) on a 41 years old man on May 01, 2012.
- Pakistan’s first Domino Liver Transplant on a 71 years old man on September 21, 2012.
- Pakistan’s first Liver Transplant for acute liver failure on a 27 years old young man on June 18, 2013.
- Pakistan first’s pediatric Liver Transplant for acute Wilson’s disease on 13 years old boy on August 02, 2013.
- Pakistan first Redo Liver Transplant (second transplant) on a 45 years old man whose first liver transplant failed due to an adverse drug reaction on January 07, 2014.
- Performed a liver transplant on the youngest Pakistani child at the age of 05 months on April 15, 2014 Performed Pakistan’s first Auxiliary liver transplant on a six years old girl for Crigler-Najjar Syndrome on June 18, 2014.
- Also performed Pakistan’s first dual graft liver transplant.
