About Us

The project was approved in the year 2009. In 2012, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, who was the Chief Minister of Punjab at the time, laid the foundation of the project. In March 2020, the SHC&ME (Specialized Health Care and Medical Education) department issued directions to operationalize the facility as a Corona Management Centre, which remained functional until March 2022. On April 18, 2023, Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif, now the Prime Minister of Pakistan, inaugurated the Institute of Urology & Transplantation, Rawalpindi. Since then, the institute has been providing Outpatient Department (OPD) services, Dialysis, and Lithotripsy. On August 9, 2023, the Provincial Cabinet, in its 22nd meeting, notified the Institute of Urology & Transplantation, Rawalpindi (IUT&R) as an attached institute of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre (PKLI&RC) in Lahore. The institute is to be governed by the Board of Governors under the provisions of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute and Research Centre Act 2019. PKLI&RC, Lahore is a specialized quaternary healthcare facility dedicated to patients with kidney and liver diseases. The hospital marked the inauguration of its first phase on December 25, 2017, with a focus on initiating transplant programs. Over time, PKLI has successfully performed thousands of kidney and liver transplants, offering them either for free or at highly subsidized rates. The hospital remains a beacon of hope for needy patients by providing top-notch healthcare services in the region. PKLI&RC Rawalpindi is a 250-bed hospital that will serve the people of Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Jhelum, Attock, Chakwal, Khushab, Haripur, Abbottabad, Azad Kashmir, KPK and the Northern Areas. By providing access to specialized healthcare services, the hospital aims to facilitate and address the medical needs of the local population in these regions.
